I love Moses!
My hubby and I were watching the ending of “In the Beginning” as Moses confronted Pharaoh and leads the Israelites out of Egypt. Even though I laughed through some of the visual effects of the plagues and parting the Red Sea, it still amazed me – all the awesome works God accomplished through the life of Moses.
As I laid down to fall asleep, I felt God leading me to read the account in Exodus. I turned to Exodus 3 when God calls Moses from the burning bush. Again, I couldn’t help but laugh to think of all the excuses Moses rattles off to God.
- why me?
- they won’t believe me!
- I can’t speak well…
God certainly gave Moses a platform, a purpose, a major role in the lives of his people. Yet, Moses resisted. He had all the signs in front of him, but he wanted to turn away.
Do you sometimes get platform envy? Do you meet people who have found their purpose and wished you were there?
If only God you were that direct with me. Then I wouldn’t have all these problems.
God began speaking to my heart. I’ve given you a role, Shane. I’ve given you a family, children, a husband, a home. Fulfill My work there Shane. Your home is My platform for you Shane.
Then the excuses began. But Lord,
- I’m suffering with depression.
- Staying at home isn’t a “real” job.
- I don’t like to clean the house!
Start small Shane, you can’t conquer it all in one night. But get on the job!
If we look back at Moses’ life before the burning bush account, we may get an understanding of why his heart was so troubled and full of excuses:
- adopted into royalty, coming from a different race
- possibly dealing with feelings of abandonment
- growing up as royalty – dealing with entitlement – yet knowing he didn’t belong
- wanting to find purpose for his own people – which lead to him to kill
- being rejected, cast out
- left wondering about himself, took on his father-in-law’s occupation
Can you identify with any of those probabilities in your own life? Do you think you are worthless because of your past, your circumstances or your own actions?
Today, God is orchestrating a life full of purpose specifically for you. He is working out a plan for your life. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection takes on new meaning when put in perspective of our current role. Jesus’ death wipes away ALL of our excuses, all of our past circumstances and even our current actions. Jesus’ resurrection brings you new life. Life in the full, life of abundance, heaven here on earth.
Will you meet him with excuses or run into His arms for support? Will you flee and reside in your selfishness or step out in faith?
