But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
~Matthew 6:6
I’d like to take this week to discuss getting our Prayer Closets in order. This is the most important place in our home, and we should pay special attention to having it set up to bring us into closer connection with the Father.
What does your prayer closet look like? Do you have one?
Mine is at the dinner table. Not at dinner time, mind you, but that’s where I have my morning devotional and prayer time. I grab my coffee, sit at the table after hubby goes to work, and have my time with Jesus.
I also have a basket that holds my “Prayer Supplies”:
Bibles - a few different translations
Highlighters (gotta have highlighters!)
Strong’s Dictionary & Concordence
My prayer list (a small notebook)
Pens
Notecards & envelopes – to stop and send a note of encouragement when a friend or family member seems to be strongly on my heart.
Do you have a prayer closet where you can go to connect with God? Yes, we can and should pray at all times, no matter where we are – but it’s also important to have a special place to spend time with our Father. You may not think you have a Prayer Closet, but think about where you have your Quiet Time:
Is it in your bedroom? your den? Do you have an actual closet you have set up for this purpose alone?
Let’s commit to giving Him a special place in our homes.
Please comment or link back to share with us how you’ve made a special place to spend time with God each day.

I actually have two…one in my home (our dinner table) and one has 4 wheels (my favorite one). I like to pray in my car – I have a 30/35 min drive to work — that is where I pray for family and friends
I love, love, love, this whole idea of a prayer closet! My prayer closet also happens to be the kitchen table! But I like the idea of a basket full of essentials! I’m going to put one together today! Thanks for sharing!
Great post … my prayer closet is sitting on my favorite corner of my couch facing out my patio doors. From my early morning perch I watch the sun rise over the river and through the pine & live oak trees. Here is a post I have written about what my quiet time is like … http://www.pleasingtoyou.com/2009/12/quiet-time-routine.html
We turned our guest room into a prayer room, with bibles, journals, devotionals and scripture on the walls.
When we have guests, we know they are staying in a room that has been blessed and filled with His presence.
Amen! Great sharing!!!
My home office is my space. I recently remodeled with warm colors.
I have a prayer couch. It’s in my kitchen and was a gift from my husband (for my 40th) especially for my morning prayer time. We have fountains right outside the window and in the morning I hear the water, watch the sunrise, and study the Living Word. It’s my favorite time of day and my favorite spot!
I don’t have a specific “spot”, however I have a basket with pens, highlighters, notebooks, journal, devotionals, my large print Bible and the Message Bible. Weather permitting I go to my back porch, otherwise where ever I put my basket down is my prayer closet.
What great ideas for your personal Quiet Time areas! I love the idea of a prayer couch, especially since it was purchased for your birthday, Kristin, and for that specific purpose. Very sweet of your husband!
Shannon, I’m glad you decided to put together a basket of “essentials”.
I can’t wait for warm weather here so I can move out to the back deck for my Quiet Time in the mornings. We have some bird feeders hanging in the trees out back, and being surrounded by God’s creation definitely makes me feel closer to Him.
